About
Cloudless is a working log. It records what gets built, how it was measured, and what turned out to be wrong, across a few running lines of work. Posts are written while the work is in progress, so some report findings and some are still open questions.
The approach is the one in the tagline: less machinery, more evidence. Prefer small pieces you can read end to end, measure before trusting, and make failure modes explicit.
Threads
- Signals & automated access 15 posts Observing, classifying and pricing automated traffic at the edge: JA4, Web Bot Auth, x402.
- Shell on Lambda 15 posts A custom runtime for plain shell functions, measured against Go and Python: cold starts, cost, packaging.
- Composable infrastructure 15 posts Small, single-purpose Terraform modules and the pipelines built from them.
- Systems under uncertainty 5 posts Design notes on building against parts you don't control: bounded retries, explicit failure, evidence.
Live experiments
- x402.cloudless.sh
A paid HTTP endpoint at the CloudFront edge: one request, one price, settled on-chain with x402.
- wba.cloudless.sh
A public Web Bot Auth checker: send a signed request and it reports, step by step, whether the signature verifies. A checker, not a gate.
Open source
The code behind the posts is public on github.com/ql4b, including the shell runtime for Lambda and single-job Terraform modules published under the ql4b namespace on the Terraform Registry. Things are published when they are mature enough to depend on.
Who
Written by skunxicat. Cloudless is a project of QL4B, a small systems-and-signals engineering studio. Posts signed "QL4B Team" come from the studio rather than one person.
